Now that the court has delivered its verdict as to whether the two UTK officers are guilty of murdering Altantuya Shaariibuu, maybe we can flashback on just some of the things that The Times of UK wrote about the matter since the story first broke in late 2006. And why The Times of UK? Well, The Times of UK would not lie like how Malaysian Bloggers normally would.

An inquiry into the disappearance of a Mongolian model, who was apparently shot before her body was blown apart with explosives, was ordered by Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, the Malaysian Prime Minister, yesterday.

His intervention came after police held a prominent political analyst in connection with the case that has caused a sensation in the country. Abdul Razak Baginda, 46, a member of the World Economic Forum, is the fourth person to be remanded in custody in connection with the death of the 28-year-old Altantuya Shaariibuu, whose body was found on Monday. He is a member of the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies, a television political pundit in Malaysia, and is studying for a doctorate at Oxford.

The others held after Miss Shaariibuu’s body was found on wasteland near Shah Alam are a police chief inspector and two police lance corporals, one male and one female. Mr Badawi said he had told the inspector-general of police to “investigate the case thoroughly and properly through due process”.

It has been reported that Mr Baginda met Miss Shaariibuu in Mongolia two years ago and the two had a relationship. The girl’s father in Mongolia said he believed they were married and that Mr Baginda was the father of her baby son.

His arrest sent Malaysian society reeling. Unnamed politicians and intellectuals described him as a “good” and “affable” man to the Malaysian Star newspaper. One said that Mr Baginda had showered Miss Shaariibuu with diamonds and other jewellery and had deposited $30,000 in her bank account. They had been on holiday together to Europe and South Africa.

“The father of murdered model Altantuya Shaariibuu will come with the marriage certificate to prove that they were married. He will also bring his grandson to undergo DNA tests to prove he is Abdul Razak’s son,” Mongolia’s honorary consul, Syed Abdul Rahman Alhabshi, said.

An adviser to Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister ordered two police officers from an elite bodyguard unit to murder his beautiful Mongolian lover, a politically-charged murder trial heard today.

The remains of Altantuya Shaariibuu, a 28-year-old translator, part-time model, and unmarried mother of two from Mongolia, were found blown up by explosives in a jungle clearing near Kuala Lumpur late last year.

Abdul Razak Baginda, 47-year-old father of a teenage daughter, planned the murder, prosecutors said in what promises to be the most closely-followed trial in Malaysia for years. Mr Abdul Razak and the two police officers face the gallows if found guilty.

Mr Abdul Razak is alleged to have turned to the police officers – from a unit charged with protecting Malaysia's leaders - after Miss Shaariibuu began blackmailing him when their relationship turned sour.

He was well known in Kuala Lumpur as a high-flier close to the ruling party and a friend of Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak, who has been forced to deny any knowledge of the case.

The trial, which has already been postponed in controversial circumstances, is being widely seen as a test case for a judicial system, which has often been criticised in the past as vulnerable to political interference.

Tun Majid Tun Hamzah, for the prosecution, told the High Court in Shah Alam that Mr Abdul Razak abetted the police officers "in planning and giving instructions so that the deceased is killed." He denies the charge.

He said that the officers, Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri, 30, and Constable Sirul Azhar Umar, 35, carried out the killing and that Sirul had confessed. The two officers are charged with her murder.

After their arrest, Mr Azilah had led police to the clearing where Miss Shaariibuu’s remains were found.

Miss Shaariibuu had threatened Mr Abdul Razak's child unless Mr Abdul Razak paid her, the prosecutor said.

Mr Tun Majid said that a pathologist's report would show that the cause of death was 'probable blast-related injuries'. A pair of slippers found in Mr Sirul's house were stained with what DNA tests proved was Miss Shaariibuu's blood, he said.

The trial had been scheduled to start earlier this month but was postponed after the attorney general replaced the prosecutor after he was seen playing badminton with the judge.

Before the trial started it had become a political football, with former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim calling for fairness and lamenting what he described as the failure of police to question Deputy Prime Minister Najib.

No evidence has emerged to link Mr Najib with the case and the Deputy Prime Minister issued a statement insisting that he had had no involvement with the dead woman.

Malaysia's judiciary has often been the subject of criticism. Nearly ten years ago Mr Anwar was himself dismissed by then premier Mahatir Mohammad and convicted of corruption and sodomy, a decision which was widely criticised abroad.

Mr Anwar has said that the judiciary and police are on trial in today's case, and Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has pledged there will be no cover-up.

A FRENCH arms company is at the centre of a deepening scandal involving the sale of three submarines, the murder of a beautiful Mongolian interpreter and the man most likely to become prime minister of Malaysia next month.

All three have been linked in a sensational sequence of revelations that has convinced many Malaysians that the woman was killed to silence her demands of a share in the rewards of the transaction.

The scandal exploded last week after the French newspaper Libération alleged that the submarines deal and the murder of Altantuya Shariibuu, 28, were connected.

A glamorous, cosmopolitan woman, Altantuya grew up in St Petersburg, spoke Russian, Chinese, Korean and English, moved in elite circles and has been dubbed “a Far Eastern Mata Hari”.

She became the mistress of a Malaysian political fixer and was allegedly trying to extort money from him at the time of her violent demise.

Two members of an elite Malaysian police unit that protects top politicians are on trial in Kuala Lumpur, accused of shooting her in the jungle and then blowing up her body with military explosives.

Azilah Hadri, 32, and Sirul Azhar Umar, 36, officers in the Special Branch, could go to the gallows if convicted of abducting and murdering Altantuya on October 19, 2006. A verdict is expected early next month.

Their trial is unfolding as Najib Razak, the country’s deputy prime minister, stands on the verge of taking over as premier after a ruling-party leadership election, due within days.

Najib was accused by a young opposition MP, Gobind Singh Deo, in parliament, of involvement in the murder. Deo was suspended by the Speaker for making the remark. The deputy prime minister has strongly denied any involvement.

Testimony in an earlier court case has established an intimate personal and financial connection between the dead woman and a close aide to Najib, who was minister of defence at the time of the submarine deal.

The aide, Abdul Razak Baginda, was acquitted by a court last November of being an accessory in the murder. He has since been working on a doctorate at Trinity College, Oxford.

Baginda admitted that the dead woman was his mistress for about a year and prosecutors said she had pestered him for money after their break-up.

Just before her death she arrived in Kuala Lumpur, accompanied by a Mongolian shaman, who was to put a curse on Baginda if he did not pay up.

Altantuya was dragged away from outside Baginda’s home by two Special Branch officers, but he was acquitted after maintaining that he never gave orders for her to be harmed.

The Libération exposé linking the murder to the shadowy world of arms contracts has embarrassed the French war-ship firm DCNS. Armaris, a firm now merged with DCNS, sold the three submarines to Malaysia in 2002 for £937m.

Attention has centred on why Armaris paid £107m to a Malaysian company called Perimekar in 2006.

Opposition leaders alleged in parliament that the payment was a “commission” for intermediaries and that Perimekar was secretly owned by Baginda. Najib replied that it was not a “commission” and that Perimekar was a “project services provider”.

Libération has alleged that Altantuya, who toured France with Baginda in a Ferrari, wining and dining at expensive restaurants, learnt of the payment. It said she was demanding $500,000 (£345,000).

DCNS has refused to comment. It is already the subject of a French judicial investigation into corrupt practices, thanks to a whistleblower who has detailed bribery and industrial espionage allegations.

Last week, efforts to contact Baginda, a self-styled political analyst, at his new home in Oxford were unsuccessful.

Najib has avoided public comment but his politically influential wife, Rosmah Mansor, told the French news agency AFP that she was “shocked” by attempts to link her husband and her to the case.

giving away contracts to political secretary is like insider trading.
Insider trading is a crime at the KLSE and other reputable stock exchange.
Shouldn't the MACC go after Najib based on this?

This verdict delivered today,death sentence given doesn't see the end but it's just the begining to the start of this gruesome killing of a human being..!!

We will see more than we have because,i believe the family members of the victim may never give up,until they know as to WHY she was killed..!!

Najeeb Mongolia is tying up loose-ends by sending the 2 ex-UTKs to their deaths, the other loose-end will be Bala and the Baginda-fler, rest assured these 2 will not be 'enjoying their last moments', Najeeb Mongolia will make sure of that.

I think these 2 murderers should face thr people's court and see if we are allowed to ask questions.A lot of questions are left unanswered .
We must answer these questions...
1,why was Altantuya immigration records deleted.
2,why was Najib not call as witness.
4,where is Altantuya passport.
5,why the court didn't ask the french gov't for immigration records of Altantuya ,Baginda and Najis.
6,why didn't the prosecution ask these 2 bodyguards who is paying them to kill Altantuya.
7,why was that photo showing Altantuya ,Baginda and Najis not use as evidence.
8,why did the prosecution check and get informations about hotels were Najis ,Baginda and Altantuya are staying.
9,why are the ticketing companies that issue air tickets not been call to produce copies of their tickets.
10,why aren't that taxi driver who drove Altantuya to Razak house not call to he witness.
11, why was that SMS between Najis and Shapee A. not fully investigated.

Should have some kind of audit then reveal the background of that company.

Actually lots of people have evidence but what use of it if the Court of Law have Judges that will Pervert the Cause of Justice. Go ask Marina Yussof ...she had ample evidence on the Bank Bumi Scandal and who was involved from Tun Daim, Tun Munafik-Botox and possible who ordered the murder. If Malaysia can be hood winked into this Natural Death of Kugan. This murder case also another swept under carpet. Does anyone from the Royalty Really care?? Rakyat can only hope for DAP, PAS, PKR to continue the struggle for Malaysian. We are battling against those who can order GUNS, F-16, Tanks against rakyat hands and stones. Razak Baginda have sent words that he and his family are living happily in their new London mansion that was just been bought,costing close to 1.3 million pounds.They are ajusting to their new life in this foreign country and Razak is now studying for his doctorate,her daughter,Rotwellier is very aggressive these days and would often not sleep at night.She is finding it hard to accustom to life in this clod and hostile English weather. The room she slept is called Kennel and she often curdle up in her own blanket.
As for that Mrs Labrador,she is trying to get on with her life and she is very protective of her husband now ,since now she knew that Razak is screwing around with girls.Often they quarrel about Altantuya and she tends to get very jealous becos sometimes in the night,Razak will call Aminah's name instead of hers.
Most of the time Razak stays in his study room and often he won't even sleep with that Labrador.
Razak says that he will come back to Malaysia only after the news of Altantuya is long gone.He thank you all of the publicity generated and when he goes to Oxford,the girls will run away when they see this ET.

The 'Mongolian woman' will not go away. In any respectable democracy, with so much baggage to his name, he must be very thick skin to take up the top job of the country. Is he a fool or what being unable to deal with this issue?

I mean they control the media. They control the police. All that they needed to do was to make a credible link to someone else and his name won't even be associated with it. But I think there were forces in play that wanted his name to be dragged in the mud and possibly rightly so. After all murder is most vile. Your guess is as good as mine as to how did they find out where the explosion site was. It was supposed to make her disappear. It did not. Someone talked.

Then when it came down to damage control, it was a pathetic attempt throughout. First of all he does not have the personality and character to easily wave off criticism like his former former boss who once called him a coward. A swearing on a holy book? Who's great idea was that?

Now not wanting further inquiry only makes things worse. BUt I don't blame him because he wasn't the head honcho yet and other forces may use the inquiry to derail his 'destiny'. Nevertheless, now he is head honcho it is more likely that a new inquiry be carried out because now he can control it, like previous a leader who was linked with judicial gerrymandering.

'That Mongolian woman' is here to stay. I wonder how the other world leaders would view Malaysia's new leader.

Guys, ICJ have no jurisdiction to receive this, International Court of Justice only hear cases of dispute between nations like the pulau batu putih case.

for crime against humanity, this case should go to International Criminal Court

What is the ICC?

The ICC is the world's first permanent, international tribunal that will try individuals responsible for the most serious international crimes and provide redress to victims when states are unable or unwilling to do so.
It was created when the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court ("Rome Statute") was adopted on 17 July 1998 at a diplomatic conference in Rome.
The court opened its doors on 1 July 2002. The ICC has 108 members states.



What crimes does the ICC prosecute?

The ICC prosecutes individuals accused of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, all defined in the Rome Statute.
The Court will also have jurisdiction over the crime of aggression once a definition has been adopted by the Assembly of States Parties.

Is the Court able to prosecute individuals for crimes committed before the Court's establishment?


No. The Court has jurisdiction only over crimes committed after July 1, 2002, when the Rome Statute entered into force.

Who can be brought to trial before the ICC?

The Court does not have universal jurisdiction.

The Court exercises jurisdiction over serious international crimes only if they were committed on the territory of a state party or by one of its nationals.
These conditions however do not apply if a situation is referred to the Prosecutor by the United Nations Security Council, whose resolutions are binding on all UN member states, or if a State makes a declaration accepting the jurisdiction of the Court.

When can the Court prosecute an individual suspected of committing grave crimes under international law?


The Court may investigate and prosecute an individual when:

(a) the accused is a citizen of an ICC member state;
(b) the alleged crime took place on the territory of an ICC member state;
(c) the UN Security Council asks the ICC to open an investigation; or
(d) a country voluntarily accepts ICC jurisdiction.

Do people enjoy immunity from the court?

No. Everyone can be prosecuted: head of states, members of government or parliament or elected representatives or public officials.
Superiors or military commanders may be held responsible for criminal offences committed by persons under their command or control.

The ICC cannot prosecute persons who were under the age of 18 at the time a crime was allegedly committed.

When will the ICC investigate and prosecute crimes?

The ICC is a court of last resort.

It will only prosecute war crimes suspects when states are not able or are not willing to prosecute the most serious international crimes,
Bona fide efforts to discover the truth and to hold accountable those responsible for any acts of genocide, crimes against humanity, or war crimes will bar the ICC from proceeding.

Who can bring cases to the ICC?

The Prosecutor can start an investigation or prosecution in three different ways:
states Parties to the ICC can refer situations to the Prosecutor;
the United Nations Security Council can request the Prosecutor to launch an investigation;

the Prosecutor may start investigations when he receives reliable complaints by anyone. However, in this case, the Prosecutor must seek authorisation from three independent judges.

(j) The crime of apartheid;

I only got 2 points to note:

1. Razak Baginda must be studying PHD on ," how to murder without leaving any trace."
2. Even the two murderers were to hang, they can always substitute with other condemned criminals, because their identity was protected with their faces covered all the time and nobody would be any wiser. If Altan...'s records can be wiped out at immigration, anything can happen in this corrupt-ridden govt.

As we know today, the 2 cops will be hanged. Let me suggest this, send your message to them through their close family (as they hate you during your ISA detention in Sungai Buloh last year), convince them to give 'everything', let do collateral damage. They are going to die (maybe), but at least they left 'something' that can bring down the real culprit.

No, I am NOT going to write a new article today. I am just going to rehash what I wrote in this same column on 6 April 2009. That article was called: Another day to go and Najib is going to eat humble pie. And this is going to be my shortest article ever.

And this was what I wrote yesterday:

Batang Ai has 8,000 registered voters, about 95% Ibans. The two contenders are five-term Lubok Antu MP Jawah Gerang and newcomer Malcom Mussem Lamoh from Barisan Nasional. The feedback I get is that there is heavy internal sabotage, which may thwart the opposition’s chances of winning this seat.

In 2004, Bukit Gantang, which has about 55,000 voters, was won by Barisan Nasional with a majority of 8,888 votes and, in 2008, Pakatan Rakyat, with a majority of 1,566 votes. That is a swing of about 10,000 votes. Pakatan Rakyat must win it this time with a majority of 2,500 to 3,000 votes to really make Najib eat humble pie.

Bukit Selambau has about 35,000 voters. In 2004, Barisan Nasional won this seat with a majority of 7,695 votes and, in 2008, Pakatan Rakyat, with a majority of 2,362 votes. That is a swing of about 10,000 votes just like in Bukit Gantang. Again, to make Najib eat humble pie, Pakatan Rakyat must win this seat with a majority of 2,500 to 3,000 votes.

Well, that is my wish list for tomorrow. Is that your wish list too?

My advice to PR. For next election, please concentrate on winning as much seat as possible in Peninsular Malaysia. IF we can have a landslide victory against UMNO in Peninsular, the other BN component parties in Sabah and Sarawak will surely jump ship one.

And, now you have delivered, again, in Bukit Gantang and Bukit Selambau. What next? Do you predict the fall of the BN government in 2012? I, For one, would not bet against you. 1. Mahathir. He thought by having a big mouth that's laced with hate and bcoz of his insatiable greed, he will have an influence on Malaysians. The treacherous ugly faced snake. Once again, he has shown that he and has always been unimaginative tod. He had the temerity to say "the people are happy with Najib and Mahathir." F..k off you slithery minion who has never recorded a single act of human good.

5. Umno Media and bloggers

Well, they realised that they are a bunch of self serving consolational concoctors. They live in fantasy. Reading their shoddy "analysis'" would make you fall off your chair laughing. Stupid bunch.

6. The Police

Once again, the blatant bias this gangsters have shown is heartrending and killing this institution. May the current IGP (deleted).

7. MCA and Gerekan

The running dogs realised that the Chinese won't mortagage their future for handouts. They need dignity and humanity and PAS through Nizar offers utmost respect. Go to hell.

8. MACC

The father of child pornography has been trying to help BN and Umno but failed. Evil is his deeds.

Winners:

1. Anwar Ibrahim. 2. Nizar Mohd, the next Pakatan leader. 3. Uztaz Hadi Awang by nominating Nizar. 4. Tok Guru Nik Aziz-the conscience of the nation. 5. Karpal: by campaigning for PAS and shutting his mouth unlike in the past. 6. Lim the father and the son: by camping in the bukits to hammer the message. 7. RPK-the fighter. 8. PR bloggers and citizen journalists. 9. Bukit Gantang and Perkians. By getting Nizar, they have the best leader today. 10. The people of Malaysia. They rejected the evil minded, irrelevant but delusional Mahathir and the scandalous Najib and PM Rosmah Marcos.

I'm so glad the nice guy and a better as well as honest man won. if BN won, they will say this shows the whole of Malaysia has changed and now supporting BN. but since they lost, they will say it is just a normal by election and not anything else let alone a referendum. Lets face the facts, without Sabah and Sarawak, BN is gone. and soon the folks there will switch to and sabah has shown it can switch.

With a brand new UMNO President and a new Prime Minister, BN still lost. With a brand new slogan 1Malaysia, people first and performance now, BN still lost. With the combined might of two of its strongest men of UMNO in Mahathir and Najib, and combined heavyweights of Muhyiddin, Khairy, BN still lost in Peninsula Malaysia! Not marginally but with increased majority in the 2 peninsula Malaysian states!

UMNO has reached its strongest and highest point in strength and yet it still lost. You cannot beat the trend where the time has come. Mahathir is irrelevant now. UMNO is already history. People from all walks of lives have reject UMNO and BN. Pakatan is not perfect and yet it will always triumph over a corrupt, racist and arrogant organization such as UMNO! It has already been proven 4 times in a row! What more proof does UMNO want?

UMNO has made the biggest irreversible blunder to play up a racist game to divide the peace loving Malaysians. It thought by pandering to the Malays by attacking the non-malays would bring them more malay votes. But they are deadly wrong – all they could do is to maintain or increase malay votes marginally but the king-makers which is the non-malays whom UMNO thought were irrelevant and unimportant deserted them in doves and cause BN to lose in every by-election!

The election results in Bukit Selambau and Bukit Gantang clearly show a small increase in the level of Malay support for BN but will be more than overwhelmed by a larger drop in its level of non-Malay support. The non-malays have cut their umbilical cords with BN. Whatever loss caused by UMNO stupidity will be to Pakatan gain!

UMNO is now a sinking ship! No matter how many captains or pilots you change, a sinking ship will be a sinking ship! The other non-UMNO component parties in BN had better bail out before the sinking ship bring all of you down to the watery graves! What do you expect from a Prime Minister who is sworn in on “Ching Ming” day?

Mahathir would have this to say for the defeats -
1. Barisan never lose any by-election during my tenure as the PM
2. We lost this time because I am not the PM now
3. Blame Khairy for the loss because he was the new UMNO Youth President
4. The PM carried too much excess baggage
5. The Chinese voters must be penalised for suppotinng PAS
6. The loss legacy was carried forward from the former PM Tun Badawi
7. I am not to be blamed because I only rejoined UMNO just before polling
8. They never appoint me as the National adviser in time which I am so desperate
The above excuses would save Mahathir some trouble from having to make his press statement for the 2 Bukit loss.

Following Che Det's mind boggling argument, just like Sdr. Anwar, Kugan pulverised and bruised himself to death whilst under police custody at Taipan USJ. So according to Che Det argument and logic, Kugan's death should be rightly classified just like Sdr Anwar's black eye (according to Che Det it was self inflicted and amounted to attempted suicide for seeking sympathy) be classified under suicide. The health ministry will agree with Che Det noble prize winning forensic argument. In fact since Che Det lamented that so far no malaysia boleh candidate has been accorded Noble Prize, I suggest that we submit Che Det's mind boggling forensic argument to the Noble award wining board for their consideration for next years Noble Prize.

My Aunty, Raja Fuziah Tun Uda, was referring to my Open letter to Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin (http://mt.m2day.org/2008/content/view/18734/84/). In that piece of 2nd March 2009, I wrote as follows:

Dear Datuk Seri,

I am going to make this short and sweet. No more cheong hei article from me.

They can lock the Perak State Assembly building if they want. The building is not important. If the building is inaccessible -- say like there is a flood or an earthquake brings it down -- does this mean the State Assembly can’t meet?

Of course it can. It can meet anywhere, not necessarily in that particular meeting.

Go find another meeting place, tonight, now itself, and hold the meeting there tomorrow. Pass a vote of confidence to support you as the Menteri Besar. Then pass all the other motions, including the motion to dissolve the Perak State Assembly. Then drive up to Bukit Chandan as soon as possible and inform Tuanku of the State Assembly’s decision.

If Tuanku refuses to comply with what is clearly lawful, then challenge him and, if necessary, trigger a Constitutional Crisis like never before seen in the 52-year history of this nation.

The people are ready. The next ‘revolution’ is not going to be a race riot a la May 13. It is going to be a class struggle. And I am with the Rakyat on this, never mind my so-called Royal background.

I speak as a Royal but speak for the Rakyat. And rest assured there are many other Royals who share my view. Don’t allow a handful of those who sit on the throne intimidate you into thinking that you are alone, representing the Rakyat, against the Monarchy. No, we are with you, as are many other Royals.

Grab the bull by the horns and bring it to its knees. And if this bull wears a crown so be it. The Rakyat have spoken. Don’t back down now. Go all the way or forever lose that advantage. And if you fail to go all the way, the Rakyat will never forgive you and you will lose our support till the end of time.

On 14th March, my Aunty sent me the e-mail above and my response to that can be read in the following piece called Raja adil raja disembah, raja zalim raja disanggah (http://mt.m2day.org/2008/content/view/19258/84/), which I wrote on 16th March.

At my Aunty’s request, I have published both e-mails. My stand, however, remains the same. I see no need to apologise to His Highness the Sultan of Perak, as I do not feel I have acted in a treasonous or seditious manner. I have already explained why I feel that way in my article of 16th March, so there is no necessity for me to repeat what I have already said.

I have been told by palace sources that the government wants to arrest me and charge me for treason. My lawyers have advised me that no such law exists. Nevertheless, they can charge me for ‘waging war against the King’, like how they charged the Al Maunah group -- who were subsequently found guilty and soon after that hanged in the Sungai Buloh Prison in October 2006.

My reluctance to apologise for what I wrote would certainly be interpreted as an act of defiance on my part. The government will also take the view that my two Internal Security Act detentions in 2001 and 2008 have not ‘done the trick’ and have instead made me more ‘difficult’. This would mean Internal Security Act detention is ‘wasted’ on me. The only way to silence me would be to charge me for ‘treason’ and then send me to the gallows to end my life.

I have no reason to believe they would not secure a conviction. My three ongoing trials and the way they keep ‘moving the goalposts’ every time they appear to be losing their case against me only strengthens this belief. I have written about this many times so I do not need, again, to go through the points of not only my concerns but that of my lawyers as well.

I do not believe that apologising, as my Aunty has asked me to, will change anything. The government will not spare me just because I have apologised. The only way I can be spared would be for me to renounce the opposition and announce that I am joining Umno. I would be expected to explain that I had erred in supporting the opposition and did not see, at the time, that the opposition is wrong and has been misleading Malaysians. Maybe, and I repeat, maybe only then will the government spare me.

But I will not do that. I can’t do that. I have come so far, 30 years to be exact -- the last ten years through the Reformasi Movement -- to now change my stand. Why would I take the trouble of spending more than half my life opposing the government and then, towards the end of my life, do a U-turn, especially if the purpose in doing so is to settle the many legal problems I am now facing?

I never intended to bring shame to my family, in particular to smear the name of my late Grandfather, Raja Sir Tun Uda. If my family feels embarrassed about my actions I apologise for that. But I offer no excuses for what I did. While I apologise for bringing shame to my family, I do not apologise for what I have done and will stand firm in defence of my actions.

I understand my family would now have to disown me. I can never be regarded as the grandson of Raja Sir Tun Uda -- or a grandson of Tengku Badariah binti al-Marhum Sultan Ala'uddin Suleiman Shah of the great-grandson of His Royal Highness Sultan Ala'uddin Suleiman Shah ibni Raja Muda Musa. As much as I am proud of my heritage, my love for my family is more important. And if I have to save my family by becoming an outcast then this is what I must do for the sake of my family.

Yes, I am the grandson of Raja Sir Tun Uda as well as the great-grandson of Sultan Ala'uddin Suleiman Shah. But I am a rakyat’s man. Just because of my royal lineage I can’t take the side of the palace when the rakyat has been wronged. Justice demands I stand on the side of truth. My personal affiliations and family loyalty can’t stand in the way of truth and justice.

I understand I am a Raja first and all others second. And, as a Raja, I am expected to take the stand as a Royalist and defend the palace whenever it is under attack. But that is just it. I did do that in the 1980s when Umno attacked the Rulers. Anwar Ibrahim, then, was in Umno and I turned my back on Anwar when he sided with Umno against the Rulers. I ‘disowned’ Anwar in spite of my earlier support for him when he did not defend the Rulers from Umno.

But I defended the Rulers and turned my back on Anwar not because I am a Raja and therefore must take the stand as a Royalist. I did so because the Rulers were being unfairly attacked and Umno, through the mainstream media, was spinning lies about the so-called misconduct of the Rulers. No doubt, some of the Rulers had misbehaved. But this does not warrant attacking all the Rulers, in particular those who were innocent and had done no wrong.

I paid a heavy price for that. I was then living and doing business in Terengganu. Umno Terengganu, at the behest of the Menteri Besar, went out of its way to bring me down. Eventually, my business was brought to ruin. Umno approached my foreign partners and told them that as long as they had Raja Petra as their partner their business prospects in Malaysia would be very bleak. After awhile, when they realised they were being blacklisted just because they had me as their partner, they ended our partnership and took new partners ‘recommended’ by Umno.

By 1994, I could hardly do any business anywhere in Malaysia. My name was untouchable. The very mention of my name meant you were doomed. The only option I had left was to close down all my businesses and retire, at the age of 44, into my new life as a writer. Umno ‘advised’ me to leave Terengganu, which I did, for my safety and that of my family.

I started writing for the cycling and motorcycling columns of The Star in the early 1990s. In 1994, when I had left Terengganu, I started my own website and wrote about political, social and economic issues. My time was spent staying at home churning out an article a day on various issues. My wife baked cookies, curry-puff and whatnot, which I went around on my motorcycle to sell.

At one stage we were so tight for cash we could no longer even buy new clothes. My wife had to be contented with hand-me-downs from my daughter and, for me, hand-me-downs from my son-in-law. To put food on the table (we ate once a day; dinner only) my wife sold rice in front of the mosque in Sungai Buloh.

One Friday, my wife could not sell even one plate of rice. She sat there for hours waiting for customers but no one bought any. I told me wife I needed to go home for a short while to write an article and left her in front of the mosque all alone. I lied. I just could not stand seeing her sit there with an anxious look on her face, wondering if she was going to sell anything that day. I went home and had a good cry. I cried like a baby, wondering if I had done the right thing in opposing the government and subject my family to this very uncertain future.

Yes, I paid the price for my ‘folly’ in opposing the government. I took a stand and suffered for it. But I never once went to my family to tell them of my problems. My family knew me as a successful businessman with plenty of money. The truth is, I was broke and could not afford to even feed or clothe my family. I suffered in silence. My family never knew what we were going through.

When the situation demanded it, I took the side of the Rulers against Umno. I even turned my back on my friends in Umno, people like Anwar Ibrahim who later became the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia. Those around Anwar became rich. I too could have become rich. But I chose to be poor on grounds of principle. I never sold my principles just to end my financial predicament.

When they sacked and eventually jailed Anwar, I rallied to his side. Yes, Anwar who had wronged the Rulers, as far as I was concerned. And for that I suffered arrest and detention, to add to my financial predicament, which was still unresolved at that time.

When I said in my 16th March 2009 article that I have earned the right to take the Rulers to task if they err or misbehave, I meant it. And I knew what I was saying when I wrote that. I had never shied away from pain. Even when the pain became unbearable I stood my ground. I just sneaked away and cried. But I never sold out my principles.

Today, my family is unhappy with me because I have acted treasonously towards the Sultan of Perak. Maybe, maybe I am treasonous. But I do not see it as treason. I am of the opinion that the Sultan has erred. And that is why I wanted Nizar to hold his ground and not back down -- which he did. And, most importantly, I have earned that right, the hard way, to take the Rulers to task if they err. And, this, I did.

As a loyal subject of the Sultan of Selangor (my late father has a certificate Kerabat Selangor), I bow my head and sembah in an act of loyalty. And as I have refused to abide to the wishes of the Selangor Palace for me to apologise and retract what I wrote, I am prepared to exile myself from Selangor and never set foot in Selangor again. That is what is expected from a loyal Kerabat Selangor who has acted treasonously (durhaka) and has incurred the wrath of the Sultan and the Selangor Royal Family.

As of today, I am persona non grata in Selangor and will live in exile outside Selangor. My decision is final and my stand is firm. There is not a soul on earth who can persuade me to change my stand.

I'm a Muslim, a Malay, very pro-royalty and as such, but I support you in defending what's good however much it causes you pain. The Sultans aren't above the law, neither are they endowed with special wisdom for us to be awed. What has happened in Perak was utter SHAME and unacceptable. The man (Sultan) who was supposed to unite us divided us and told us something like: "I support UMNO openly...so what"? You expect us, Malays and non-Malays who believe Umno is bad to salute the Sultan? We demand justice and if we don't get, then injustice will eat way the Sultans and the Royalty. I don't write too often but this article is just too much. after reading his sacrifices - especially the ones where he saw his wife's worries is very moving.

Many of us can suffer great pain personally. But to see our loved ones suffer for our work is far more painful than personal pain. And yet he did it! An amazing man with a wonderful family

I am printing out this article to consistently remind myself that I must stand up for what I believe - only then can this world be a better place for our children.

This is a forthright, frank & courageous letter - but a very sad one that reflects the state of affairs in certain quarters.

Don't be disheartened - the true mark of a leader of the people(royalty or otherwise) is his humility - and that you definitely have.

There are people with "names & titles" who would do anything to preserve what they have - even if it means that they betray what they're supposed to represent. they lose sight of what matters, when their vision is clouded by the pomp and luxury that they have sold that name & stature to.

There people whose perceptions. hearts and minds have been twisted and are spiritually subservient to those in power - although they hold politically exalted & "glorified" stature in society. Most are simply fakes at heart.
These are people who don't know the meaning of the word "honour". They are at best, confused as to its true meaning, and hence only see "shame" when it should have been honour.
These are people who have sold out on their humanity.

You on the other hand, despite (or should I say - due to) all your idiosyncracies, are a man of the people - a True Raja.
And you will always remain in the hearts of the people - long after all the pretenders have gone.

Getting teary eyed is completely understandable.
Sympathising with The Great Raja is the logical thing to do at this stage.

Sir Raja Petra Kamarudin, We all know one thing is for sure that you will not accept any form of assistance willingly rendered by the people of Malaysia but you can be rest assured that we are all behind through thick and thin.

You may not, legally, be the King in this country but you are our Raja forever. I will teach my childrens and their childrens and with God's will, their childrens as well about a person named Raja Petra Kamarudin, a person for all to look up to as mentor. Dear RPK, In my frank and honest opinion you have not done anything seditious. You only have one thought in mind and that is to help the Rakyat.
The Selangor Sultan is highly educated and HH is a wise, kind and soft spoken ruler unless HH is provoked. In this instance, I am sure the Tuanku will not bannish you from the state and make you stateless. When there is a change of government and the country is more peaceful and harmonious rest assured the Sultan of Selangor will be very proud of you and HH will bestow upon you the highest Bravery award or a genuine Datukship which money cannot buy (definitely not in Selangor).

As I see it these were his personal urgings to the MB of Perak to fulfill his duties and rersponsibilites to the rakyat, and by virtue of that, his services to the office of the ruler of Perak. Much like an NGO activist as so many are during these trying times.

Your Highness,i have on two occasion could not finish reading your article,one on Dato Mahadev Shankar's letter to the late Tunku ADbul Rahman,and now this.Yours are not articles edited to cosmectically make someone cry,it does naturally!

Coming from a broken home,where my mum worked part-time in a wayside shop stall,she would bring home the remnant food scraps for our dinner,as that was all the shopkeeper could pay her.We wore japanese slippers,walked to school,food coupons from school for recess,borrowed text-books[sometimes none].Well it was miserable and sad growing up.And there are many Malaysians who have similar predicaments and hardships.
I sometimes wished i won the biggest jackpot,to just help change as many lifes as i could.I'm a muslim convert,and at some stage estranged from my whole family.I only have my spouse who is also a muslim convert and my daughter,the most important people in my life now,that keeps me going.
I wish i could do more,but have only a place in my heart for you,your family,your strive and all Malaysians who so want to save Malaysia.

Thank you and thank you readers,we need to let others think with passion,grace and with faith to fulfill a good life with the best manner and thoughts.

Guys..its high time we do something back for RPK. Get his or his wife's details and open an account now. Its time we contribute and do not wait until he needs it. From Pete's previous article on the old Malacca Sultanate, had not Tun Perak defy the Sultan's order to put Hang Tuah to death, there would be no Hang Tuah(and nobody else capable) to kill Hang Jebat when Jebat drove the Sultan out of the Palace upon mistakenly learning that his close mate Hang Tuah was killed.

The defiance of Tun Perak against the Sultan's order helped save the Sultanate in the form of an alive Hang Tuah. The question is: Did Tun Perak commit treason in defying the Sultan?

Please note that the rakyat's emotions have been fired up by the decisions in Perak today, and dear RPK is again putting himself on the line to save the situation. Thank You Aunty Fuziah.

If you go to UK, you will see the media and newspapers criticising the Queen & Her Royal Family for spending too much of the taxpayers' money, indecent behaviour and other nasty things. They do that not because they hate the monarchy institution (in fact, they are very proud of it) but because they dislike the individuals who are in that position, by lineage or by marriage. Royal families are also human beings, and human err almost on a daily basis. To use the term 'treason' for every act against the individual (not the institution) is like giving absolute power to the Royalties to punish their subjects like in the old days for disagreeing with them.

Monarchy is a system, and every system has to be checked and balanced. Otherwise, the system will break down and collapse.

In times of modernity, whenever there is a conflict between custom and justice, justice should always be allowed to prevail. Otherwise, all the talk of ethics are but loads of bullshit. RPK obviously done what he did for justice and for the people, not for himself, so the need to force him so hard to bow with custom? Its had to swallow the decisions taken in courts and politics that we are made to feel that the rakyat are suckers and stupid. I understand Aunty Fuziah's concern. However, it just goes to show that even the royalty are afraid of UMNO. That is how powerful UMNO has become.

I pray for Pete and his family's safety. Whatever he decides, even if he should decide to quit the fight, we will respect him. But he has chosen to fight on, so we rakyat should rally to him in this struggle.

DontPlayGod has made a good suggestion. What he says is inspiring. If even 10% of us could chip in with a minimum of RM10 per month towards RPK fund, we can go a long way. It may not be enough but it will help him to focus more on his work. While my daughter is sleeping,i look at her and i just can't stop crying.Writing this is so hard for me,cause i just so exasperated with the many unsettling issues that escalate around us.

I talk to my little girl,telling her a little of how things are and teaching her only what is good,and i hope she will be treated well when she goes out into the world.I worry for her and for all innocent children,they don't deserve to treated badly,because of some who live and breath Power and Money.!
I'm so sad,to see so many with a good heart who want the right things for all of us in Malaysia,and get penalised for stating or wanting our needs.We aren't robbers,we couldn't be even if we tried.

I just wish i could give everyone a big hug.Everyone has their and highs and lows,for me todays' news is a big,big low for me..

My humble opinion is that which family (even the non-royal family like us which god has made equal in his eyes. does god discriminate his creation by non-royal or royal?) that does not family values and code of conduct?

If it is wrong, then it's wrong even when it comes to family members. Will you not cane your children if they misbehave? just because they are your children, all the more you need to cane them to discipline them to become good in society.

As I read and re-read the exchange of letters I couldn't help but felt that if the royalties of perak took exception to your letter tp nizar than the royalties are extremely thin skin and sensitive. It dawned on me that the royalty is actually a large collection of individuals with a few vocal and influential persons. The sultan of perak may not even give a hoot or took offence at what you had written. I won't be surprised that one or two individuals, from the royalty or a support staff, who is been manipulated by pak dallang(from you know where-lah) to forment hatred and discontent.

If you are still having influence in the royal household take this matter inside(private).There is really no need for any public posturing. Locate the pak dallang and pak turut/pak bodoh...and come back here to tell us the shadow play.

Aunty Fuziah, If there is any family member more deserving, more sacrificing and more beloved by any right thinking Malaysian in your family, it is Raja Petra and his brave and suffering wife Marina. He earns his princely respect and admiration from all of us, ordinary folks who look up to him as representing the royal family for protection against injustice and corruption. The royal posiitons are privileges given and annointed by Allah for taking good care of his people. They shall remain just and upright in their ways in being a ruler for his people. Otherwise why would want need a ruler when history has time and again proven corrupt, ruthless rulers come to early end but those cherished and loved continues forever. If I were his aunty, I would have been most proud of him. Even Tok Uda would approve of his fight against injustice for the good of the people against corrupt government and against government that seemed to have found means to control the royal voice on many issues that clearly and fundamentally corrupt.

The fable freedom fighter who fought with the people of Zimbabwe against the apartheid led by Ian Smith. But when power and money was given on his lap. All principles were blown to the wind.

Yes. I agreed help, whether monetary or moral should be extended to RPK, however thread this path with care, as many people has fallen on this entrapment. RPK's struggle should not be tarnished nor blemished by allegation that may arise from this.

This can be proven, when it matters most, there were few people who really made themselves present in person. Most would have said. " Our spirit are with you, sorry I staying very far away.".

It is OK, if you guys are indeed far away, that is understandable.

The thing is, is there anybody close enough to RPK to persuade him to set up such a trust fund for us to contribute to his fight for JUSTICE and DEMOCRACY? Although they say blood is thicker than water it is your family members that let you down when you need them most. In most cases it is your friends that prove to be your 'real' family in every sense of the word. So, do not lose heart if your family members ie blood unties, uncles, cousins do not rally behind you and your actions, the rakyat, your adopted family who love and cherish you are fully behind you. We will see to your needs like you are of our blood though we may be of different races. Our ideologies bind us together as one. This is stronger than blood!!

I appreciate the dilema that faces you and do sympathise. I would be proud to have a nephew like RPK who has stood up to be counted in bringing about a just and equitable society at great risk to himself and family. Given the climate that prevails his courage is all the more remarkable.

I never cease to be amazed by the constant call to observe the proprieties to maintain an iniquitous hierarchy.It could be amusing if the transgressions were not met by deadly force. Many, I believe, still hold a subservient mentality that balks at the though of bringing about a transparent society. A belief in equality,and the acceptance of EVERY individual as equal before the law would go a long way toward mitigating many of the ills that plague us. Whilst not all have equal capabilities , dreams, aspirations,desire, needs and wants,the differences are used in a manner to discriminate against any one not meeting an artifiacial standard.It would be more meaningful if the differences are gratefully and graciously accepted as a means by which we know our uniqueness. Simply put if every one was a genius there would be no geniuses.

Many have challenged the established order of things and suffered for it. But the resulting changes have benefited societies and eventually the world, although in many instances the lessons have not percolated through sufficiently.I wonder if those who brought about the Magna Carta, an example, could be judged as traitors There have been times where the slightest infringement was answered by death.I would like to think that as a species we have evolved to a point where such insane measures are not countenanced. To think that the subject of conventional treason still ranks higly in the minds of some is ludicrous. What is more ludicrous is betrayal of the trust placed by the people in the institutions that they maintain.I would be so bold as to suggest that that is reverse treason by the defenders of the realm!

In a lighter vein I recount a tale from my early days in King Edward VII school in Taiping. Every year the school games were preceeded by THE CROSS COUNTRY. Not being much of a long distance runner I, in the company of similarly fated, was encouraged by some very capable runners who had fallen behind. On subsequent inquiring into this behavior, I was informed that the very capable, who could have finished up right in front, were helping weaker runners to finish in the stipulated time,therby accruing more points for the team. I WAS IMPRESSED. Now of course I see extending this idea to include not only,member kita, but ALL.It is second nature for a truly evolved being to uplift another. Now if this is used as a criteria for judging, many of us would fail the test!

THE DESIRE TO UPLIFT THE RAKYAT IS NOT TREASON. IT IS HEIGHT OF BLASPHEMY TO SUPPRESS ANY OTHER BEING.

Covnersely, we find out those who aren't as close as initially thought to be, sticking with us, thick or thin.
